How does Gatepay work?

Gatepay is built on the X402 protocol, an open standard for payment-gated HTTP resources.

  • X402 extends HTTP with native payment requirements (think: HTTP 402 Payment Required).
  • When a user accesses a Gatepay link, the server responds with payment requirements.
  • The client pays using supported crypto assets and receives access upon confirmation.
  • Facilitators are Gatepay-managed services that handle payment verification, resource delivery, and webhook execution.
  • They abstract blockchain complexity and ensure secure, reliable payment flows.
  • Each Gatepay user has an account for managing links, payments, and API tokens.
  • Payments are sent directly to your wallet or a designated address.
  • Gatepay never holds your funds—payments are non-custodial.
  1. User visits a payment link.
  2. Gatepay returns payment requirements (network, asset, amount, address).
  3. User pays via wallet or integrated UI.
  4. Gatepay verifies payment and grants access.
